Stockport Art Guild's 95th Annual Exhibition

The Stockport Art Guild was formed in 1919 and has a rich history, including its annual exhibition which has been running since the very beginning. But there's an interesting additional slant to this year’s, as The Guild are encouraging visitors to the exhibition to produce 'selfies' or self-portraits.

BEST EDITORIAL AWARD

This time last week we were at the annual Independent Magazine Publishers’ Conference in the Midlands. We’ve been publishing for almost 10 years now and I felt very privileged to be invited onto a Q & A panel to share some of what we’ve learnt over the years! In the evening was the fun part – the glitzy Awards dinner.

Last year our magazines were Highly Commended for the front covers. This year we went one better and walked away with the BEST EDITORIAL award – particularly pleasing as the competition was very strong. This kind of recognition makes us all the more determined to carry on doing what we do well. Plenty of interesting articles make our magazines very readable and therefore a great place for our advertisers to be seen!

My first time at Poynton Show

Having never been to a village show before, I didn’t really know what to expect when I went along to Poynton Show last month. Held on what turned out to be a fairly cool, but (thankfully) dry, day, the Show was an eclectic mix of attractions, competitions, and stalls, and was a wonderful day out.

Charlotte's Work Experience Blog - Day 4

Hello

This morning I have had a few tasks to do. Firstly, I went through all of the magazines we have in the office and sorted them into the different magazine titles. This job needed doing partly to tidy up the office, but also to update our archive, just in case we need any reference in the future.

Charlotte's Work Experience Blog - Day 3

It’s Charlotte again!

Today I have written a book review of My Sister’s Keeper which is a book I recommend. This morning I was helping to check through the first proofs of the Poynton and Wilmslow magazines. This needs to be done because we need to check that all the businesses that were booked in for those particular magazines do actually feature in them and we need to check that the correct artwork for the advert has been used and is in the correct place. Charlotte's Work Experience Blog - Day 1

Hi I’m Charlotte from Poynton High School and I am doing my work experience at INSIDE Magazines. I chose to do my work experience here as my two favourite subjects are English and History, also when I am older I would like to be a journalist, so I thought it would be a great experience for me to see what goes on behind the scenes at a magazine. So far today I have learnt how to make advertiser bookings and send invoices. Also I have written a section of ‘Inside Guide’ and ‘In Touch’ for the August-September magazines.

I will keep you posted this week so you can see what I am up to. Bye for now, Charlotte.
